Komodo Island Tour from Bali: 8D7N Onboard Mutiara Laut

Bali is a highly developed island that travelers flock to when looking for a tropical escape. But as someone who has lived in Bali for years, my idea of a true island escape lies further east: Komodo Island.

There are many options for Komodo Island tours from Bali, but I prefer the slower, unhurried pace of sailing. Let me share my experience onboard the Mutiara Laut liveaboard, a beautiful wooden yacht perfectly designed for exploring remote islands.

A Yacht Professional Who Loves Nature

Hi! I am Louise and this is my third year of working in yacht industry. In my day-to-day life, I work closely with travel agents, diving deep into their clients’ specific travel styles to seamlessly connect them with the right vessels and itineraries. Yet, despite sending countless travelers on their dream vacations, nothing quite prepares you for experiencing the magic firsthand.

I naturally gravitate toward nature-focused travel, the kind of journey that allows me to deeply relax, soak in breathtaking scenery, and discover authentic local food. I actively seek out Komodo Tour experiences that force me to disconnect from my demanding routine and reconnect with the natural world, all while maintaining a high standard of comfort and exceptional hospitality.

When it finally came time for my own getaway, navigating the journey to Komodo Island from Bali felt like the ultimate opportunity to take my own advice. The experience easily stands out as one of the top Komodo tours available.

Stepping Aboard Mutiara Laut

The first things that stood out to me upon boarding were the elegance of the vessel, the attentiveness of the crew, and the warm welcome we received. The traditional wooden design gives the yacht a deeply unique character, while the crew immediately made us feel comfortable and cared for.

Space to Enjoy the Moment

Although the layout is relatively simple with only two decks, it is incredibly well-designed and very comfortable. There are plenty of spaces to relax, enjoy the sunshine and sea breeze, read a book, or simply admire the passing scenery.

The dining area is cozy and inviting, and the overall setup encourages guests to spend time outdoors.

Spacious-Comfortable Cabin

Mutiara Laut Cabin | Hello Flores

The cabins had everything we needed for the trip. The space was comfortable, with enough room to rest, recharge, and prepare for the next adventure. The bathrooms were practical and well-maintained. The cabin provided us absolute rest at the end of everyday, after the activities have ended.

Food Onboard Mutiara Laut

The food was excellent in both quality and variety. Meals were thoughtfully prepared, and we rarely saw the same dish repeated. I have a mild food allergy, and the crew handled it exceptionally well. They double-checked my dietary requirements throughout the trip and carefully prepared separate dishes when necessary, making me feel very safe.

Attentive and Helpful Crew

The crew was incredibly attentive, warm, and professional. They consistently made sure we were comfortable and accompanied us throughout all activities. Small touches, such as welcome drinks and cold towels after excursions, proved they genuinely cared about every guest's comfort.

What Is Daily Life Like on a Komodo Liveaboard?

The daily pace was relaxed and balanced, with each day tailored to the specific destinations we visited. Typically, breakfast was served around 7:00 AM, followed by our first snorkeling, diving, or excursion activity.

We would then return to the yacht for lunch and some relaxation while cruising to the next location. In the afternoon, we enjoyed another activity before returning for snacks, sunset views, and dinner. Land excursions, such as island trekking, were smoothly incorporated into either the morning or afternoon sessions.

This Komodo tour was actually my first open-ocean snorkeling experience, and it completely exceeded my expectations. The crew paid close attention to safety, ensuring everyone felt comfortable in the water.

Our Cruise Director, who has over 26 years of experience, was especially impressive at spotting marine life and sharing his knowledge about the underwater world.

Destinations Highlight: 8D7N Trip to Komodo

Leaving the energetic coastlines of Bali behind, our 8-day, 7-night voyage officially began as we untied the mooring lines at Serangan harbor. This route offered a rare perspective of Indonesia, blending seamless shipboard luxury with raw, untamed nature at every single stop.

Gili Islands

Snorkeling in Gili Islands with Mutiara Laut | Hello Flores

Our first official stop was the Gili Islands. The captain anchored right between Gili Trawangan and Gili Meno. During my very first time jumping into the open water, I quickly spotted a manta ray, some black-tip sharks, and a school of yellow fish.

Moyo Island

Moyo Island Excursion - 8D7N Komodo Island Tour from Bali | Hello Flores

This trip from Bali to Komodo was not just about the water. We went on land for a short excursion at Moyo, hiking along a simple jungle trail until we reached a waterfall. Everyone jumped into the fresh water for a quick, cool swim.

Saleh Bay

Saleh Bay Diving with Whale Shark | Hello Flores

Next, we traveled to Saleh Bay, a calm expanse that many people often overlook. It is actually home to rare and endangered whale sharks. Getting into the water early to swim alongside these giant, peaceful animals was an unforgettable moment.

Satonda and Sangeang

After diving with the whale sharks, we moved on to Satonda to swim in its crater lake, spotting turtles in the clear water. Later, we sailed toward Sangeang, sitting on the deck to watch a beautiful sunset before dinner.

Gili Banta

We stopped at Gili Banta for some relaxing beach time. Because the island is very remote and uncrowded, we had the place to ourselves to play beach volleyball, drink cocktails, and enjoy a beach BBQ with music and dancing. The next morning, we woke up to a lot of dolphins swimming around our anchored boat.

Gili Lawa

While most tourists gather at Padar Island for sunrise, we went to Gili Lawa Darat instead. We woke up in the dark and climbed to the top of the hill. The quiet, beautiful view from the peak was completely worth the early start.

Golden Passage and Mawan

We spent the next part of the day diving. The fast-moving water at Golden Passage pulled us past the coral reefs, while the calmer water at Mawan let us watch marine life resting near the bottom. Both spots showed me exactly why people travel so far to dive here.

Wainilu

When the sun went down, we geared up for a night dive at Wainilu using flashlights. I am not a certified diver so I just following the crew explored the Wainilu at night and enjoy a stargazing moment without city lights.

Rinca Island

You cannot go to this region without seeing the famous dragons. We docked at Rinca Island and walked inland with an official park ranger. Spotting several huge Komodo dragons resting on the ground was a very thrilling experience.

Makassar Reef

After leaving Rinca, we sailed over to Makassar Reef, a long strip of sand surrounded by shallow water. We had plenty of time to relax and snorkel in the warm water filled with colorful fish and manta ray.

Sebayur

Snorkeling in Sebayur - Komodo Tour Itinerary | Hello Flores

Our last major dive took place at Sebayur. The calm ocean conditions made swimming along the sloping reef very relaxing, marking the perfect end to our underwater activities.

Labuan Bajo

Labuan Bajo | Hello Flores

On the eighth day, the yacht arrived at Labuan Bajo. While many travelers opt for shorter Komodo tours from Labuan Bajo, arriving here after an extended voyage felt incredibly rewarding.

After our last breakfast on board, it felt sad to pack my bags and say goodbye to everyone. I disembarked at the harbor feeling tired but completely happy with the entire trip.

Packing Tips for a Komodo Sailing Trip

I highly recommend bringing seasickness remedies, even if you are not normally prone to motion sickness. I packed motion sickness pills and essential oils, which provided extra peace of mind throughout the journey.

Beyond medication, a good pair of trekking shoes is essential for the rugged island hikes and viewpoints. I also recommend bringing a protective swimsuit or rash guard to provide sun protection during long snorkeling sessions.

Overall Komodo Island Trip from Bali

Komodo Island Trip from Bali 8D7N | Hello Flores

Over the course of the trip, we grew very close to both the crew and our fellow guests, making our departure honestly quite emotional. Everyone was so welcoming and kind that the boat quickly felt like a home away from home.

By the end of the journey, I felt refreshed, recharged, and deeply grateful for the experience, wishing only that I could stay a little longer.

If you are looking for a comprehensive Komodo Tour Package, this incredible trip is perfect for every type of guest. I went on this shared cruise with my friend Reyka, and our fellow passengers varied from groups of friends to couples.

When comparing the Komodo Island Tour Price, factor in the value of an extended 8D7N liveaboard experience versus day trips. My biggest advice if you take a journey to Komodo Island from Bali is to consider combining the trip with nearby destinations like Sumbawa if your schedule allows. It adds an entirely new dimension to the journey and lets you experience even more of Indonesia's landscapes and cultures.

Finally, spend as much time as possible enjoying the outdoor spaces on the yacht, you simply won't want to miss the scenery.

Frequently Asked Questions

While it is technically possible, a day trip is incredibly exhausting and not the most cost-effective way to experience the region. You would need to catch an early morning flight to Flores and immediately join one of the short Komodo Tours from Labuan Bajo. Because of the time constraints, a single day only allows you to visit a maximum of two popular spots within the national park, rushing the experience.
