You have picked a month and a shared boat, and now you are stuck between two nights and three. Here is the short answer. A 3D2N shared trip already covers Komodo's headline stops: Padar, Pink Beach, Manta Point and a ranger-led dragon trek. What the extra night adds is a slower pace and quieter sites such as Gili Lawa Darat and Kanawa. That matters most to keen snorkellers, families with young kids and anyone who dislikes early starts.
Quick Answer
- A 3D2N shared trip is a complete Komodo trip. It reaches Padar, Pink Beach, Manta Point, a dragon trek and the Kalong sunset.
- On Hello Flores sample routes, the 4D3N adds Gili Lawa Darat and Kanawa, with more water time and less rushing.
- Published 3D2N shared prices run from about USD 340 to 410 per person depending on the boat (indicative; these are subject to change).
- Pick 3D2N if your time or budget is tight. Pick 4D3N if you are a snorkeller, a family or a slow traveller.
- Either way, take a morning flight into Labuan Bajo and go straight to the boat.

What does a 3D2N shared trip in Komodo actually cover?
The case for either length starts with what the shorter trip already includes, because most budget travellers underestimate it. A 3D2N shared trip, also sold as a Labuan Bajo open trip or Komodo open trip, is a fixed-route departure where you book a place on the boat and pay per person.
Hello Flores' sample 3D2N route runs in this order:
- Labuan Bajo to Siaba Besar or Sebayur
- Taka Makassar and Manta Point
- Padar, then Pink Beach
- Kampung Komodo or Rinca for the dragon trek
- Kalong at dusk
- Manjarite and Kelor, then back to Labuan Bajo
That list covers the reasons most people book a Komodo National Park tour in the first place:
- Padar viewpoint: the hike takes up to 2 hours.
- Pink Beach Komodo: the pink sand stop.
- Manta Point Komodo: mantas are resident year-round.
- Komodo dragon tour: ranger-led on Rinca, or a stop at Kampung Komodo on Komodo Island.
A 3D2N shared trip gives you all four in a single booking. Most first-timers find it a natural fit.
Verdict: A 3D2N shared trip is a full trip. Book it with confidence if two nights is what your schedule or budget allows.
What does the extra night on a 4D3N shared trip add?
Since the core sites are already covered, the extra night is best read as breathing room plus a couple of extra stops. On Hello Flores sample itineraries, the 4D3N adds Gili Lawa Darat and Kanawa. Routes vary slightly between boats.
The reason pace changes so much comes down to the timetable. A shared boat has to reach a fixed set of sites before it returns to Labuan Bajo, much like a train that must hit every station on schedule. On a 3D2N, each leg is planned tightly. Add a night and the same stations spread out, so the slack goes into longer snorkels and fewer pre-dawn alarms.
| 3D2N shared | 4D3N shared | |
|---|---|---|
| Nights aboard | 2 | 3 |
| Padar, Pink Beach, Manta Point, dragon trek | Yes | Yes |
| Extra sites (Hello Flores sample) | None | Gili Lawa Darat, Kanawa |
| Pace | Tight, early starts | More relaxed |
| Time in the water | Less | More |
| Best for | Short leave, tight budgets, first-timers | Snorkellers, families, slow travellers |
Verdict: The extra night adds pace and quieter water. It does not add a must-see you would otherwise miss.
Which shared trip length suits which budget traveller?
With the trade-off clear, the decision comes down to who is on board.
- Solo travellers: 3D2N. There is no single supplement on cabin bookings, so you only pay for your spot. Hello Flores handles cabin pairing. Gender-separated berths or a women-only cabin can be arranged on request, depending on who else has booked that departure.
- Couples on a budget: 3D2N, unless you want unhurried time. Couples on shared cruises get a private cabin. Choose 4D3N if a quiet extra evening matters more than the saving.
- Families with young kids: 4D3N. Padar's steep hike is probably only right for children aged 8 and older. Kanawa's slower currents are safer for kids to snorkel, and the extra night means less rushing between stops.
- Keen snorkellers and divers: 4D3N. You get more sites and more time in the water. Dive tank and gear rental are usually extra.
- First-timers with limited leave: 3D2N. You cover the essentials and keep days free for Bali.
Verdict: Choose 3D2N when time or money is the constraint. Choose 4D3N when energy, kids or snorkelling is the priority.
How much more does a 4D3N shared trip cost, and what is included?
A 4D3N costs more per person than a 3D2N on the same boat, and beyond the extra night the only costs that grow are drinks and tips. Hello Flores lists these indicative 3D2N shared prices per person in USD. They depend on the exchange rate.
- Angelica: 340 to 350
- Elbark Cruise and Elrora: 345 to 355
- Papiton Duwa: 360 to 365
- Navila and Vinca Voyages: 375 to 380
- Gandiva Phinisi: 400 to 410
The 4D3N price depends on the boat. The fair comparison is to quote both lengths on the same boat, and we reply within 24 hours.
What is usually included:
- The cabin, crew and meals
- Drinking water and snorkelling gear
- A local guide
- The airport-to-harbour transfer
- Park entry, harbour and ranger fees, which are covered by your Hello Flores booking and handled by the boat on the day
What is usually extra:
- Flights and alcohol
- Dive tank and gear rental, plus dive courses
- A fuel surcharge (sometimes)
- Crew tips and personal travel insurance
Here is the good news. Because meals, gear and transfers are already bundled, the extra night adds few new line items. The costs that grow are drinks and tips.
On timing, we recommend March to June and September to October, when conditions are good and the park is far less crowded. April to June and September to October also tend to bring more competitive prices for budget travellers.
How should you plan the days around a Komodo shared trip?
Once you have picked a length, the days on either side decide whether the trip feels smooth. Follow these steps in order:
- Book your international flight first. Then book the Flores and boat leg, and then Bali.
- Take a morning flight from Denpasar. The flight to Komodo Airport takes about 1.5 hours, and Labuan Bajo is about 10 minutes by car. Your transfer takes you straight to the boat, so there is no hotel night and no idle afternoon.
- Use spare days wisely. If you have an extra day, put it into the 4D3N or extend your Bali leg.
- Book 4 to 8 weeks ahead at minimum. Solo-friendly cabins fill first, and planning months out gives you the widest choice of dates.
- Check your confirmation. Make sure it names the exact boat.
Every boat booked through Hello Flores is contractually required to hold valid insurance and current certification. Documentation for a specific boat can be requested from the operator on your behalf. As an independent check, the harbourmaster (KSOP Labuan Bajo) issues a Sailing Approval Letter for each departure.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a 3D2N shared trip too short for Komodo?
No. It covers Padar, Pink Beach, Manta Point and a dragon trek. The 4D3N adds pace and extra sites, not the essentials.
Will I see mantas on either length?
Both routes include Manta Point, where mantas are resident year-round. Sightings of wild animals can never be guaranteed.
Can I see Komodo dragons on a 3D2N?
Yes. The route includes Rinca or Kampung Komodo on Komodo Island, and sightings on Rinca are common.
Is a Labuan Bajo boat tour by day a good substitute?
We recommend overnight trips instead. The sites that matter sit on the park's southern loop, and a multi-night Labuan Bajo sailing trip is how you reach them properly.
Do I need to pay park fees at the jetty?
No. Park entry, harbour and ranger fees are covered when you book through Hello Flores.
Is a shared trip the same as a Komodo island tour package?
Many Labuan Bajo tour packages are built around a shared boat trip. With Hello Flores, you compare specific boats and departure dates, and we handle boat selection, date matching and cabin pairing.
